WP1 - Literature Review and User Requirements definition:

Conduct a literature review on the current state of the art and best practice in the research area. Outline issues and pressures in an Irish context and include all relevant bibliography. Develop a detailed specification for user requirements.

WP2 - Hardware, Housing, Comms Development and Sensor Integration:

Development of end to end system architecture and testing strategy.  Development of housing, electronics and communications system – data logger, display, data capture, and transmission. Integrate relevant off the shelf sensors and the Hydrolight lab on a chip technology for monitoring nutrients in receiving waters.

WP3 - Software Development – Design, Build and Test:

Building out a roadmap based on the prototype developed during Proof of Concept stage and develop machine learning software for optofluidic platform. End to end software system including integration and testing for IEM buoy to be developed.

WP 4 - Field Trial and performance analysis:

Initially, lab sampling and analysis will be used to generate unique spectral identifiers for a list of contaminants that can be detected in real time. Wastewater treatment plant critical operational scenarios to be identified and appropriate early intervention strategies recommended. Deployment optofluidic platform remotely and generation live signals. IEM buoy to be tested and validated in a real-world environment focusing on system durability, usefulness, real-time data gathering, system bugs etc.
